PROCEDURE · ZIRCONIA CROWNS

Zirconia crowns.

Modern crowns are zirconia, not metal. Strong, natural-looking, and a fraction of US prices abroad.

A crown covers a damaged tooth — one that's been heavily filled, root-canalled, or fractured — to restore its function and appearance. Modern crowns are made of zirconia (a tooth-coloured ceramic that's harder than porcelain and won't crack) or porcelain-fused-to-zirconia. The metal-based crowns of twenty years ago are increasingly rare. Crowns are often combined with implants or veneers in larger cases.
